Web applications and Content Management Systems
Web applications are used everywhere: from e-shops to self care portals of the telco companies. They are accessible from almost any computer (even from handhelds or cell phones), can offer rich functionality without requiring special hardware on the user side, and simply, are very popular. They can substantially reduce costs of tasks they perform in comparison to the non-electronic way of conducting them. Another feature is almost zero deployment effort - it is enough that the machine is equipped with up-to-date web browser.
However, web applications have their downsides. First of all, their responsiveness depends largely on the network connection quality and the load on the servers. In the intranet environment this is less an issue than in public sites, but it also can be a bottleneck. The user interface of those apps is usually poorer and less convenient - especially data entry forms. That problems can be solved by using client-side techniques called ActiveX and AJAX. They allow web application to take control of the client browser to some extend and make it behave more like a desktop application.
A special kind of web applications are CMSes (Content Management Systems), allowing end-user to create, edit and manage content published on the website. It is a major jump it the information technology, reducing the burden and costs connected to maintaining a site. CMSes can offer WYSIWYG editors, content categorization, indexing and search functions, as well as integration with third-party software in the form of plug-ins.
NG Logic offers development of any of the web applications mentioned above. We especially recommend Zope application server, which is the base for web applications. We also work with Plone CMS system based on Zope and Python language. We have finished or are finishing several projects in those technologies.
